“We see into the life of things.” ~ WILLIAM WORDSWORTH
Dear Readers, Community, Friends,
Have you ever watched a tomato grow?
What do you do to slow time down? In this fast-paced digital world, slowing down is essential. Lately, I have enjoyed listening to the birds – really listening. One will sing. Wait, then another will answer in a distant tree. I also have a bat house hung on the house right outside my bedroom window. It’s pretty wonderful to hear them leave their house to fly into the night while I am closing my eyes. And lastly, I planted a few vegetables and herbs, and have been so surprised how long it has taken for my first tomato to ripen. I could have watered it more, but it’s been fun to go out each evening and take a peek, then see it finally turning red!
So, I invite you, too, to unplug, and see what kind of good trouble you can get into.
I’ll leave you here with a book I just finished, that has crept up to one of my top favorites of all time. I listened to it on Audible, and the narrator was so, so charming, just like the main character. Enjoy!
For this past month, we moved on to Part 3: “Accelerate Your Focus.” Here are some highlights on chapters 5 and 6.
In July, let’s finish up the book with the Conclusion: “The Origin Story of Scaling.com, and How to Learn More.”
Chapter 5: Do the Work to Engineer a Focused Path and Scalable Model.
Replace complexity with one simple, repeatable engine of growth
Cut competing offerings – build around a single, clear model (build a new one, don‘t fight the old)
Excellence compounds exponentially; mediocrity only grows lineraly
Chapter 6: Build Something that can Scale Beyond Yourself
Most founders unintentionally build the business around themselves as chief problem-solver
A “leader with 1,000 helpers” might feel indispensable, but it caps growth
True scaling requires systems, talent, and decision-making that don’t depend on you
Remove yourself as the bottleneck. It’s as critical as cutting bad clients out of the mix.

2026 HR COMPLIANCE RISKS: WHAT GROWING BUSINESSES CAN’T AFFORD TO MISS
This month we both sponsored and attended the SHRM Western North Carolina “Employment Law Roadtrip” conference. Saw many familiar faces and garnered valuable information.
Then, our team had a great time at the Asheville Tourists game. The renovations they have done to the ballpark are amazing. I highly recommend you check out the new facilities and enjoy a night out. Here is their game and theme night schedule.
