“The note of hope is the only note that can help us or save us from falling to the bottom of the heap of evolution, because, largely, about all human being is, anyway, is just a hoping machine.” ~ WOODY GUTHRIE
Dear Readers, Community, Friends,
As the season wanes, what are your goodbyes? And as the light sits slightly lower in the sky, ... what will be your new hellos?
Where were you this time last year? How have you transformed from that time? In this past year, what did you learn, what did you embrace, what did you let go of, and in what new directions did you turn?
I dove into the work of our virtual book, The Art of Impossible, by Steven Kotler. With Steven’s guidance on mastery, I picked up spinning and weaving and can now tell you all about shuttles, niddy noddies, warp, weft, drafting and thwacking. Want to know what breeds of sheep are endangered and how you can support them? I’ll tell you. I dove into books like Fibershed, The Lost Flock, Women’s Work, and Vanishing Fleece: which covered the full history of the known fiber world, nearly-lost ancient breeds of sheep, and memoirs that touched on the therapeutic nature of spinning, knitting, and wearing local cloth. So, as the days grow cooler, I am going to spin and knit myself a sweater made from locally-sourced wool. I want to wear the sun and earth on my back {hopefully, before the spring thaw arrives}.

Times are heavy in many ways in the landscape of our communities and the world. The song above always reminds me that despair is not an option. Connection, joy, moving through grief, and sharing our gifts with the world are always the right things to do in any moment. Put this one on your playlist and let yourself be lifted.
So, this fall, ... dive into something that you’ve always wanted to try, learn, or be. It’s always the perfect time to start something new.

SMALL BUSINESS EMPLOYEE RESOURCE GROUP PLAYBOOK: MAKING IT WORK WITHIN LIMITATIONS
HOW TO MAXIMIZE EMPLOYEE BENEFITS TO ATTRACT GREAT TALENT
77% of employees view benefits as part of their overall package. The same employees state that total compensation is vital when determining whether to switch jobs or stick with their current employer.
This past year, I have taken up guitar lessons. Finding a teacher and discovering how I learn best in this way was the first big step. I have found this to be a rejuvenating experience after a long day’s work. Perhaps I will learn Joy’s song too.
My family and I took an unforgettable, final summer trip, with stops including Niagara Falls, Watkins Glen, Acadia, and NYC (including the Broadway show, Wicked).
I hope you all are enjoying these last days of summer.
