A moment of radical acceptance is a moment of radical freedom.  ~ TARA BRACH

Dear Readers, Community, Friends,

Have you heard? A comet is in our skies that has not been seen since Neanderthal times. Depending on the behavior of the comet, combined with the conditions of your viewing area, it may be possible to view the comet with the naked eye.

To help you have the best possible viewing experience, The News & Observer posted a detailed article (click here for full story) Here are a few of their viewing tips:

▪ Starting Jan. 14 — In the hours between 8 to 10 p.m., the comet may be visible in front of the constellation Bootes.

▪ Until Jan. 26 or 27, the comet will get closer to the Little Dipper, or Ursa Minor.

▪ The constellation will continue to move in a westerly direction until its closest approach to Earth on Feb. 1. At that time, it will be in front of the Camelopardalis constellation.

Then, if you wish to be inspired simply by the click of a button, dive into: “Moving Art”, a stunning instrumental/nature series on Netflix. It left me with a profound feeling of how magical and diverse our earthscapes are!

PLATINUM READERS VIRTUAL BOOK CLUB

How’s the reading going?

If you haven’t heard, some of us are reading “Psycho-Cybernetics” by Maxwell Maltz as a virtual group. I am finding this accountability helpful and see how little time I take out of my days to read. I am curious what you are hearing from the book. If you have insights you would like to share, please email me and I will share them in the next newsletter (anonymously, or otherwise – just let me know your preference).

I started listening to the audio version of the book, but found I also needed a paper copy to take notes and solidify the concepts in my mind. Here are the main things I am hearing thus far:

  • We all possess a success mechanism and we need only to tune into and imitate/resonate with past successes.
  • To start, we need to have a goal in mind so that our cybernetics can know where to be guided. In the first part of reaching a goal, our cybernetics will adjust by redirecting from error, and once the first success has happened, it will then imitate that experience.
  • Allowing instead of forcing this process to unfold is key.
  • Be aware of what we believe about ourselves. In our imagination, we have the power to create a story that aligns with our highest self (the uniqueness we have to share with the world).

I have felt like I am stumbling with this practice, but it sounds like as my abilities to imagine the fullest potential improve, this process will come with more ease – yay! I hope you too are enjoying this journey.

February we will read chapters 5 - 9. Happy rewiring your mind! (Haven’t started the book yet or want to join in? Just grab a paper or audio copy and dive in. Just knowing others are reading it too will help you. It’s good stuff!)

HOW TO CULTIVATE A HIGH-PERFORMING TEAM BY LEVERAGING YOUR LEADERSHIP STRENGTHS

Leadership is a critical component of building a successful team. The way a leader manages, motivates, and communicates with their team members can have a major impact on the team’s overall performance. In order to assemble a high-performing team, it’s essential to understand your own leadership style and how to leverage your strengths in order to fill in any gaps.

BEYOND THE GOAL: ESTABLISHING SYSTEMS THAT HELP YOU REACH YOUR TARGETS

Without goals, you may float aimlessly, struggling to develop a strategy and direction. Setting goals can help set you in the right direction and give you something to aim for. Merely setting goals, however, only makes you live in the fantasy of the future. It’s not a sustainable move toward your future plans.

Happy New Year!

With end-of-year tax deadlines, January is always one of our busiest months. I am always grateful then, for the quiet moments I get to spend with my family at the close of each year. It felt great to take one last vacation in 2022 and go to the beach with my wife and 2 young children. My wife always takes great care in planning and preparing for these trips so we can all relax and have fun. Thank you, Nicky, for all you do for our family.

What does 2023 hold for you? I am excited to plug into our new business community here at the Hatch offices. With regular get-togethers, weekly food trucks, a great coffee shop and the best curry I have ever had at Little Bee Thai, it seems it is shaping up to be a fun year.

I wish you all the best for the start of this new year and know, as always, we are here if you need us.

Warm regards,

Michael
