“Your heart knows the way. Run in that direction~ RUMI

Dear Readers, Community, Friends,

Have you found your edge?

In the beginning of The Art of Impossible, Steven Kotler asks us to make a list of 25 things that deeply interest us, and to look for the intersections. In doing so, he is guiding us to fine tune our truest purpose. The less time we spend doing things we think we should do, the fuller our lives will be. Whether you have read the book or not, how would you alter your life if you listened to that deepest part of yourself – your truest north?

In PART 4, “Flow,” we finally get to see the magic that stems from all of the building blocks of Parts 1 - 3 (Motivation, Learning, and Creativity). The not-so-romantic part is that this process starts with struggle and ends with something seemingly mundane as scheduling. But – what Kotler is trying to show us is, if you get clear with your purpose and optimize your methodology (allowing your physiology to work for you), over time, you will feel the benefits this sustained effort yields.

For this final section of the book, I put 2 quick-reference lists in the workbook (the 22 Flow Triggers, and the 4 stages of the Flow cycle), to help you internalize these elements.

THE SECRET TO UNDERSTANDING & BOOSTING EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT

Getting employees genuinely excited about their work is so important, but it can be tricky to figure out. Employee engagement goes beyond the surface level of job satisfaction. It isn’t just about whether employees are satisfied with their jobs day-to-day. It’s more about them feeling invested emotionally in what the company is all about and what it hopes to achieve.

Greetings!

I am proud to say I braved the cold and rain and have kept my biking practice going all winter. (Full disclosure – I have been riding my Peloton bike in the comfort of my home.) I think I am ready for spring and some outdoor adventures. How about you?

I am looking forward to attending Asheville Independent Restaurants (AIR)’s annual Taste of Asheville event this Thursday. It will be an unforgettable night of culinary artistry. While it may be sold out for this year, visit AIR’s event listing for details to be sure you don’t miss out next year. Perhaps I will see you there!

Warm regards,

Michael
