“Be the change you wish to see in the world.” ~ Mahatma Gandhi
Dear Readers, Community, Friends,
What is the landscape of your heart?
I’ve heard the Irish say that their music reflects the topography of their land. So, the music in the belly of the country emulates its soft rolling hills, whereas the choppy cliffs in the North give way to songs that are faster and more staccato.
The other day I was driving near what used to be a creek pre-Helene, and is now a broad, slow, shallow river. In my neighborhood, giant tree stumps, leaning trees and those that still stand without their tops greet me at every bend. This land that I have known so intimately is now a new landscape, a new topography. I thought of the Irish and their sensitivity to their land and wondered: do we hold this possibility as well? How can I soften, move more slowly, and broaden the borders of my life ... letting my edges expand beyond what I know?
How has Helene, {or any life event}, changed how you move in the world? What possibilities arise when we are asked to go beyond what we think we know?
This new terrain has invited us to look with fresh eyes, and get to know it as it is today. If we step outside our doorstep assuming we know what we will find, we will miss our land’s newness. That seems like a good thing to do in life: to look out to the world with curiosity, reside in listening and learning mode and ask, ... how can we bend, connect and be with things as they are today?
