“Y si no das más, tan solo encuentra lo que hay en tus manos, piensa que dar amor nunca es en vano.” ~ PABLO NERUDA
Dear Readers, Community, Friends,
I won’t make you look that up as I had to. Pablo says, “And if you don’t give more, you’ll only find that which is in your hands, it is thought that giving love never is in vain.”
How are you expanding your community, finding your peeps? In what areas of your life are you sharing more love? {Include yourself in your answer, won’t you?}
I have discovered a new gem of a community. A new place to feel belonging with others for the greater good. I want to shout it to the rooftops {you are my rooftop}. It is: 100+ Women Who Care in Asheville.
Their premise is this: get many, inspiring women together; ask them to donate $100 (or what feels comfortable to them); bring in 3 non-profits to present their pitch; vote; give the winning non-profit the pool of donations (equating to approx. $10K!). Tip: wear only waterproof mascara to these meetings. The beauty of what these nonprofits are doing to enrich and serve our community is so moving, there was not a dry eye in the house when the presentations finished.
Here are the three that were nominated this quarter. I’ve included a support link for each one.
THEIR MISSION: “Our mission is to connect WNC’s agricultural communities with our neighbors who need access to fresh, locally-grown, nutritious meals. We do this by purchasing from farmers at fair market-rate and transforming their ingredients into delicious, scratch-made meals to share with those who need it most.” SUPPORT
THEIR MISSION: “To inform and engage the citizens of Asheville and surrounding communities by providing fair, factual and reliable in-depth news stories about local government, institutions, issues, and people.” SUPPORT
THEIR MISSION: “Working Wheels provides affordable, reliable transportation to local families in need. We do this because we know that a dependable car opens the doors to education, employment, access to healthcare, and an improved quality of life. Our collaborative model bolsters the work of trusted partners by connecting the repaired vehicles with their clients – the ones they believe need them the most.” SUPPORT
I will be doing Spotlight Interviews with some of the nominated nonprofits to help spread the word. They are doing amazing work for our community!
