A whole world can be found in the tiniest of things. Here, the story of the Gete Okosomin Squash ties countless generations together.

“This is the squash that gained fame online and became known as the ‘800 year old squash’ which, according to legend, seed was found in a ‘clay ball’ at an historic site in Wisconsin. But other stories state that this squash was found in a cave by the Miami Nation. Whatever the story is, we know that squashes of this type have been grown by Native people in North America for hundreds of years and likely came from the Squash Winter Gete OkosominGuatemala area, possibly over 1000 years ago.”

If you would like to grow this amazingly sweet and delicious squash, and support a great company, you can order a packet of seeds from Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds.

If you want to try a few, drop us a line. We’ll have some extra seeds at the office.

After the harvest, ... Alchemy

al•che•my  /ˈalkəmē/

“a seemingly magical process of transformation, creation, or combination”

The dream of making something a reality takes great effort, and sometimes, a little magic. How is it possible to cultivate health for People, Planet, Community, and Local Economy — all at once? We know someone that has.

What started in a little house in Montford only 10 years ago, Buchi’s manufacturing facility in Marshall, NC now covers an expanse of about 30,000 square feet. With their commitment to ethically source and manufacture nutrient-dense, health-enriching products, pay fair wages, and invest and preserve their community, Buchi has done just that.

We love working with Buchi, as they have been a constant source of inspiration for how to dream big and actualize it in a way that is beneficial to all. We recently had the privilege to tour their beautiful facility and taste some of their amazing, new products. Here’s a list of what they create below:

KOMBUCHA - a craft-brewed, organic living nutrient-dense tea fermented with a wild heirloom culture.

KEFIR SODA - organic, non-dairy, microbiologically active tonic fermented with raw heritage tibicos — also called Kefir Cultures.

SHRUB SODA - an organic, herbal infused probiotic vinegar tonic

Recruiting Top Talent by Hiring for Potential

Every business in the industry wants to find and hire the top talent available. They want the brightest, most skillful, and most value-adding professionals who believe in the company mandate and fit perfectly into the company culture. Needless to say, that’s a pretty tall order, especially considering the talent crunch with all-time-low unemployment rates and freelancers occupying an interestingly hard-to-reach section of the job market.
