“Life isn’t long enough to do all you could accomplish, and what a privilege even to be alive. In spite of all the pollutions and horrors, how beautiful this world is. Supposing you only saw the stars once every year. Think of what you would think. The wonder of it!”  ~ TASHA TUDOR

Dear Readers, Community, Friends,

YOU NEVER KNOW.

I have met some pretty interesting folks, often in surprising ways. The most fascinating place was at a silent retreat. The experience started off completely introspective: no speaking or eye contact. What a fun way to watch the way our mind tells stories of people by just their appearance and mannerisms. Like, this intriguing woman: wild hair, hand-spun clothing and woven wraps. I thought maybe she was a nomadic musician. On the tenth day when we would finally converse, she told me she was a doctor who helped care for wounded soldiers in the wars of Nepal. She would work there for three months, then fly back to the U.S. to rest and renew before returning. And, another time I met a charming, tiny older woman with fiery red hair. I thought perhaps she was a fairy (!). Turns out, she was a traveling musician from New Zealand. Below, is the fun work her son does as a cause-and-effect artist. While most machines in this world are designed to simplify our lives, Joseph describes his as complex, messy and fun!

However useless these contraptions may seem, think for a moment about how many solutions can be found in just one of his creations? The engineering and complex systems alone are not only mind-boggling, but completely inspiring. If you are solving a complex problem, take a moment to watch one of his videos and see what ideas pop up about your own situation – never underestimate the power of applied knowledge.

Greetings!

When faced with a complex challenge, I find that approaching it from a myriad of angles helps the problem be surmountable. Covid has certainly taught me this. Taking the time to assess our systems of operating (both remote and in-person), how we communicate and serve our clients, and keeping our team connected and solidified through stressful global times – taking action in multiple ways proved essential and rewarding.

At Platinum Group, we are often hyper-focussed on our individual jobs-at-hand. It was wonderful, then, as some of us were finally able to take a Friday afternoon and meet up at a local brewery. I am grateful for our team – they are truly an enjoyable, genuine bunch.
