Dear soul, am I only because I have been?~ ETEL ADNAN

Dear Readers, Community, Friends,

If we don’t know the outcome, how do we choose a direction?

What tools are in your toolkit when you must chart your course? How do you build trust into your purpose? How do you garner the will to reach for an ability not yet obtained? And – why does this all matter anyway {because: it will help us to be and do what we really love}.

These questions and more will be answered in our new virtual book club with The Art of Impossible, by Steven Kotler.

The first two chapters of the book are very short, but I find concise information like this sometimes takes a minute to really sink in. As I read, I found a graph could be a helpful tool for us to remember how everything fits together. Chapters 1 & 2 covered “Drive” and “Grit.” As we read more, I will update this graph to paint the full picture.

Click on this graph to utilize an interactive file where you can access exercises for the book.

HELPFUL TIPS:

  1. The path to what we think is impossible takes continuous effort and time.
  2. Just starting on this path helps to make the impossible, possible.
  3. Remember to never rely on a single source of fuel. Utilize physical fuels, such as: sleep, exercise, hydration. Use psychological fuels like curiosity, passion, purpose to help access life’s emotional fuels.
  4. Remember why you are doing this work in the first place: to get specific about what you love, and optimize your basic biology and intrinsic drivers to help you achieve your dreams.
  5. Work slowly through this process so you are working correctly. Over time, momentum will be gained and it will feel more effortless.

For October, let's read:  Chapter 3 “The Full Intrinsic Stack,” Chapter 4 “Goals,” Chapter 5 “Grit,” and  Chapter 6 “The Habit of Ferocity.”

Happy Reading!

Greetings!

Just recently, I had the special opportunity to attend Farm Aid with my family. It is an annual event with greats like Willie Nelson, John Mellencamp and Neil Young, who all perform and host this amazing fundraiser. People gather for a weekend of amazing music and food to help keep family farmers on their land.

You can learn more about Farm Aid here and donate to the cause or be inspired to attend a future festival. I highly recommend it!

If you are a Willie Nelson fan, he will be performing locally at Rabbit Rabbit on October 18th.

Warm regards,

Michael
