Obtaining health insurance can be tricky, especially when new laws are enforced. If you're a military veteran, here's what you need to know.

Now that the Affordable Care Act (ACA) has become law, most folks will need to have health insurance or be subject to a penalty.  Military veterans that are covered under TRICARE or the Veterans health care program are compliant with the new healthcare law.  For a complete list of programs that meet the minimum essential coverage requirements, please check the government healthcare website here.

What if I’m not enrolled in TRICARE or Veterans Health Care?

You can get coverage through the health insurance marketplace.  You may also qualify for free or lower costs in healthcare, dependent upon the size of your home and your income.

I am a veteran enrolled in a VA healthcare program, but what about my family?

Though your dependents may not be eligible to recieve benefits from your VA healthcare program, all hope is not lost.  Your dependents are eligible to use the health insurance marketplace to obtain quality healthcare coverage.  Again, depending on household size and income, they may qualify for free or low cost healthcare.
